Market Rasen Surgery is a medium-sized dispensingpractice based in the centre of town, just on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds and within easy reach of hospitals in Grimsby, Lincoln, Gainsborough and Louth. We serve a largely rural community of approximately 9100 patients over approximately 200 square miles – please see the practice map for full details of the villages we cover.

The practice is contracted by Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust to provide general medical services to our patient population. As well as general medical services, we also provide many additional services, including minor surgery such as vasectomies in our purpose-built theatre, cervical screening, childhood immunisations, warfarin monitoring and suture removal.

In addition to the five GP partners, we have a highly skilled nursing team which, as well as general nursing duties, also manages the care of patients with conditions such as asthma or other respiratory disease, diabetes and chronic heart disease. Our nurse specialist is able to diagnose and prescribe for patients suffering from minor illnesses such as infections, rashes and bites. The nursing team is supplemented by three trained phlebotomistsand health care assistants who take blood for testing, monitor patients on warfarin, carry out spirometry and take basic data such as height and weight. We also have a team of attached nursing staff, who are employed by Lincolnshire PCT, based at the practice who look after our patients. These include the district nursing team, health visitor, nursery nurse, community midwife and visiting dietitian and community psychiatric nurse. In addition, we also have regular outreach clinics in paediatrics, diabetes and psychiatry for the elderly.

The clinical team is supported by the dispensary and administrative staff, including receptionists, a financial administrator, IT administrator, patient records administrator, healthcare administrator, a medical secretary and cleaners. Responsible for the day to day management of the practice and its services to patients is the practice manager.
